Today, the LEGO Group launched 10256 Taj Mahal – the original release was the largest ever set until September 2017, so where does this new edition sit on the list?
LEGO Star Wars 75192 Millennium Falcon launched a few months ago, to become the largest ever LEGO set, knocking LEGO Creator Expert 10189 Taj Mahal from the top spot. Now, the Taj Mahal has relaunched with set number 10256 and unlike the big Star Wars set is being marketed as a re-release rather than a new interpretation of the same subject matter (what small changes have been made will become clear when more fans own the new version).
Brick Fanatics produced a list of the top five largest LEGO sets when 75192 Millennium Falcon was released, with 10189 Taj Mahal (2008) sitting at number two with 5,922 pieces. 10256 Taj Mahal (2017) has 5,923 pieces, just one more than the original – that extra element is a brick separator. If the set were to be added to our list of the largest LEGO sets, it would fit in at number two, behind 75192 and ahead of 10189.
So as 10256 Taj Mahal has just one extra piece, that is a brick separator, this seems to confirm that it is indeed a re-release. It will not be added to the Brick Fanatics list of the top five largest LEGO sets, aside from a note to acknowledge that the set has been brought back from the vault.
LEGO Creator Expert 10256 Taj Mahal is available now from shop.LEGO.com.
