Exeter held its first ever LEGO show this weekend, with attendees turning out in amazing numbers.
The inaugural West Country Brick Show was held at the Exeter Phoenix venue on Saturday 30th July. The event proved a huge hit, with some people queuing for over two hours to see what some of the South West’s finest builders had on display. The show was organised by Darren Smith, Lewis Aylmer, Marc Reid and Simon Pickard who were blown away by the interest, and due to the positive reception intend for the event to return next year on a much bigger scale.
The show included a display of vintage LEGO Town Plan sets from the late 1950s and part of Exeter cathedral’s big LEGO build project. Blocks magazine were also present and showcased many builds that have featured in the magazine. There were also family activities with a separate build room and a competition for the younger builders to enter their creations with a chance to win some great prizes.
The AFOL builders brought along an eclectic mix of builds from Viking longboats to space gorillas, Rapunzel’s tower to Star Wars mosaics — all of which delighted the visitors, young and old, many leaving inspired by what they had seen. Perhaps some of these visitors will have been inspired to get building and might end up displaying at next years show…
