Washington DC’s basilica is recreated in LEGO bricks

LEGO fan John Davisson is getting attention beyond LEGO circles for his brick replica of Washington DC’s Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

During the periods of lockdown and everything being closed, LEGO builder John Davisson decided to get busy with the bricks. After building his own house, he put together a model of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, located in Washington DC, USA, Aleteia reports.

“I’ve always thought it was a really remarkable building. When you come over the horizon of a hill in D.C., you see the basilica. Especially at night, it’s a really cool sight,” Davisson says.

He spent a month designing digitally in Stud.io, before ordering the pieces. It then took around two weeks to put together 8,100 pieces based on his digital designs. The model’s scale is 1:250.

Lockdown has proven a fruitful time for LEGO creativity, with one fan creating stop motion James Bond movies and another taking LEGO wedding photos.
