The LEGO NINJAGO Movie has taken the number one spot on the UK box office chart, with a £3.46 million opening.
In its first week on release, The LEGO NINJAGO Movie has earned £3.46 million, knocking the critically lauded Blade Runner 2049 from the top spot. Despite not wowing critics in the same way as its predecessors, ticket sales have been healthy enough to see the animated feature in the top spot.
As is the case in the US market, The LEGO NINJAGO Movie is not coming close to the success of The LEGO Movie or The LEGO Batman Movie, as Screen Daily reports:
The debut is less than half the bows of the previous two Lego outings in the UK which both opened around the $10.6m (£8m) mark, with The Lego Movie and The Lego Batman Movie going on to take $45.6m (£34.3m) and $35.8m (£26.9m), respectively.
While The Lego Ninjago Movie could do decent business on Saturdays and Sundays in the coming weeks, it won’t come close to those totals.
Warner Bros. and the LEGO Group will undoubtedly be disappointed that this latest release is not proving as successful as expected. That said, the LEGO range based on the movie is one of the company’s most impressive ever, with anecdotal accounts suggesting that it is performing well.
The LEGO NINJAGO Movie is out now. Sets based on the movie are available from shop.LEGO.com.
