The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part takes $6 million during fourth weekend on release

During its fourth weekend on release The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part took $6,615,00, putting it at number four at the US box office.

Since being released on February 8, The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part has performed below expectations, selling fewer tickets than The LEGO Movie and The LEGO Batman Movie did during their theatrical runs. During its fourth weekend on release, the film took $6,615,00, bringing its US total to $91,670,040.

Another animated release is topping the chart, with How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World taking $30,046,000 during its second weekend on release. The third entry in the series has earned $97,696,275 in just ten days.

Last weekend The LEGO Movie 2 took $10,015,000, making for a 40% drop.

In a recent interview, Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara recently commented on the film’s disappointing box office. “It didn’t do as well as tracking would’ve suggested, which was a little puzzling. The first movie was so fresh and so different. We need to continually rethink the experience, but the LEGO brand is incredibly strong. On the game side, it’s been an incredible franchise.”

Trisha Gum recently talked about her role as co-director in great detail, discussing the digital parts library that was available to the animators and the tricky task of making mini-dolls movie.

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part is in cinemas now.
