Time’s up on the LEGO Ideas space contest, which means there’s a future promotional set waiting in the current pool of entries.
That follows the formula set by previous contests, such as the one that gave us January’s sublime gift-with-purchase 40448 Vintage Car. There’s a real job on for the judging panel in this instance, though, with a whopping 1,434 entries up for consideration.
Each of those models had to be between 150 and 250 pieces in size, but beyond that (and the obvious space theme), there were no real restrictions. And that’s resulted in exactly the variety the Ideas team was presumably hoping for, with vehicles, locations, brick-built characters and plenty more in the mix.
Once the LEGO design team has whittled down those nearly 1,500 entries to a final shortlist of just 15, the Ideas team will throw the door open to a fan vote, which is set to begin on March 12. That means you’ll be able to have your say on which model deserves to win the grand prize: the honour of becoming a future gift-with-purchase.
The winning builder will also take home a bounty of LEGO Star Wars and Ideas sets and a LEGO Ideas tote bag, while five runners-up will claim a slightly smaller selection of sets and the requisite bag.
We’ll let you know when the fan vote gets underway. It’s due to run for a week, before the final winners are announced on March 26. If you’re still itching to enter an Ideas contest in the meantime, there are still two more you can get involved in: one on brickfilms, and one on video games.
