Status update on BrickLink AFOL Designer Program

BrickLink’s AFOL Designer Program is currently in the production phase, and early backers have now received more details on when they can expect their pre-order sets to arrive.

As Brick Fanatics reported earlier this week, BrickLink is now finalising the instructions and packaging for each of the 13 successful projects. However, the response to the program has been much larger than anyone at BrickLink anticipated, meaning there’s a slight delay in production.

In an email to backers sent last night, the BrickLink team explained that shipping will still start in May as planned, but it may take until the end of summer to fulfil every order.

“As you know, this is a pilot program for us and we are learning and refining as we go,” the email read. “We want to thank you for your patience and your continuous support.”

Orders will be fulfilled in the order in which they were placed, so if you backed one of the projects when the crowdfunding phase opened in February, you can expect to be part of that earliest shipment.

And if you missed out on the crowdfunding phase altogether, don’t fret: you’ll be able to order the sets again from Monday April 22 (except Raziel_Regulus’s Löwenstein Castle, which has already sold out), just with shipping fees added on this time.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then. You can follow me on Twitter at @brfa_chris.
