Star Wars: The Last Jedi set photos and poster offer more LEGO speculation

Just in case the two-minute teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi wasn’t enough to satiate your desire for all things Episode VIII, director Rian Johnson also showed off a bunch of his personal on-set photos at yesterday’s panel at Star Wars Celebration. Oh, and an awesome poster to boot.

Let’s start with that poster, first and foremost, as it gives us a great insight to what the focus of this movie is going to be: Rey, Kylo Ren and Luke Skywalker, and all things Jedi and the Force. Of course, as noted in our trailer breakdown, non-Force users like Finn, Poe and General Leia are all likely to play key roles in the film too. But with all eyes squarely on the lightsaber-wielding trio (presuming Luke’s green blade will make an appearance), we can perhaps expect the LEGO sets to mirror that focus.

Moving on to the on-set shots, taken by Rian himself on a handheld Leica camera, there’s not much to take away in terms of LEGO beyond the characters involved. But it’s nice to see what some of our heroes – and villains – look like this time around, including Finn (who definitely isn’t a cyborg after getting sliced up by Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens), Captain Phasma (unchanged), and General Leia.

We also get a good look at Kelly Marie Tran’s new character, Rose, whose LEGO form may have already been glimpsed in a leaked photo that made the rounds a few months ago. Either way, her presence in The Last Jedi’s inaugural LEGO wave is pretty much assured, as Rian Johnson described Rose as the sequel’s biggest new character.

There are multiple shots of Rian and Carrie Fisher hanging out and discussing things on set, though whether that’s simply in tribute to the late space princess or indicative of a larger role this time around for Leia remains to be seen. Odds are high that we’ll see her in LEGO form in the initial wave for The Last Jedi, though, instead of waiting for the winter sets, as was the case with The Force Awakens.
