LEGO Studio Ghibli could soon become a reality, as one Ideas user’s Spirited Away project has reached 10,000 votes.
That means the LEGO Ideas team must now decide whether to produce legotruman’s enormous bath house as an official set. The 2,612-piece model roughly matches the dimensions of 70620 NINJAGO City, but unlike that enclosed building, this is actually just a facade.
It still has a full interior, though, packing in plenty of iconic scenes from the 2001 animated film across its eight rooms – all of which are removable for even better accessibility. The talented builder has also designed three minifigures and five brick-built characters, including Chihiro, Kajima and both human and dragon versions of Haku.
This isn’t legotruman’s first Ideas project, and it’s also not the first time they’ve reached 10,000 votes. In fact, two more of their projects – LEGO Doggo and Vincent van Gogh: The Starry Night – are currently under review. While they wouldn’t be the first fan with multiple Ideas sets to their name, they may be the first to have two projects approved within the same review period.
If you need any further proof that legotruman has completely cracked the Ideas formula, their Spirited Away project reached 10,000 votes in just 45 days. That might have a little something to do with the popularity of Studio Ghibli’s seminal movie, of course. In 2017, The New York Times named Spirited Away the second-best film of the 21st century (so far). And it remains the only hand-drawn, non-English-language movie to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
Spirited Away is the 12th project to reach the third 2020 review. It joins Avatar: The Illuminated World of Pandora, Motorized Lighthouse, Classic Castle, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Red Dwarf Starbug, Bag End, Gravity Falls: The Mystery Shack, Boeing 737 Passenger Plane, Brick Town Police Station, and Colosseum (Architecture Style) in contention for a future LEGO Ideas slot.
In other Ideas news, The Earth Globe and Legendary Stratocaster recently passed the review process and will be released as LEGO Ideas sets next year. 92176 NASA Apollo Saturn V and 92177 Ship in a Bottle have also just emerged from retirement, and are once again available at LEGO.com.
