Santa’s Little Helper, Helper, HELPER! – a Christmas build

Brick Fanatics’ resident Classic Space fanatic, Justin Winn, has taken his favourite theme and given it a festive twist

It is that time of year again. The growth in the planet’s population has meant that Santa Claus is finding it harder as each year passes to get gifts to all of the good boys and girls. Thankfully our favourite spaceman Benny has built a custom sleigh with four glorious space-reindeer to lend a helping hand and ensure that Father Christmas gets the job done.

As you would expect, Benny has built his sleigh in the style of Classic Space, pulled using electromagnetic technology rather than the more traditional reins. In addition, Benny has employed the assistance of two space-elves who are tasked with loading the presents onto the sleigh.

For this year’s Christmas model I wanted to build something traditional but give the MOC a Benny / Classic Space twist as this idea had been rattling around in my head since I first imagined what a space-reindeer may look like.

My favourite part of the build is Santa’s cosy residence for which I sourced medium dark flesh masonry bricks to create the effect I wanted. The roof was created using mainly 1×1 round bricks which work really well at creating texture and the aesthetic I wanted the achieve.

The trickiest part of the build was the tree, which has a modified 2×2 plate with octagonal bar frame at its core providing the shape. It is a delicate part of the build but a few well-placed bars reinforce the foliage to stop it falling part.

The final touch was the addition of an array of toys and gifts including crates of teddy bears, musical instruments and Star Wars toys.

Enjoy – and have a wonderful Christmas!

I'm long-time LEGO fan who fully emerged from my ‘dark age’ in 2014, after three children and a lot of LEGO building reignited my interest. My first love is Classic Space – they're the first sets I owned – and this passion is reflected in my creations as a recurring theme.
