Predicted biggest movies for 2019 all have LEGO themes

The three films expected to sell the most tickets this year are all expected to have LEGO themes.

Forbes is looking to the year ahead, and has predicted that Star Wars: Episode IX, Frozen 2 and Avengers: Endgame will be the three biggest grossing films of 2019. Each film is expected to have a LEGO theme, coinciding with the movie release dates.

As part of the Marvel Super Heroes theme, fans are expecting Avengers: Endgame sets to be released in March. There are no January sets for the theme aside from 76127 Captain Marvel and the Skrull Attack, with the last wave released last December to coincide with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse. Based on previous years, around six sets are likely to launch to build hype for what is expected to be the last outing for some members of the Avengers team.

On November 22, Frozen 2 will arrive in cinemas – and given that the toys were in huge demand when the first film was released six years ago, it would be amazing if LEGO opted not to release a wave of Frozen 2 sets as part of the Disney theme. With Anna and Elsa absent from the latest wave of Disney sets, it seems pretty certain than somewhere between August and October sets based on the sequel will be released.

Then there is Star Wars: Episode IX, the film that Disney is billing as the final chapter in the Skywalker Saga. The LEGO sets for the film are expected on October 4, with the film due to arrive in cinemas on December 20.

All of that is in a year when The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part will also arrive in cinemas – so whichever of these films comes out on top, the higher-ups in Billund will hope to shift plenty of brick based construction toys.
