Official LEGO Advent Calendars – December 2

Every day until December 24, Brick Fanatics takes a look at the gifts in the LEGO CITY, LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Friends Advent Calendars for 2016

So this is odd, but fun. The theme in CITY is Fire this year, but a firefighter decked out in a full respirator as a band member is… impractical. There’s a spirit of whimsy around it seems, suggesting the firefighter picked up a guitar for some festive fun. Unfortunately the guitar has no printing, it is plain red – usually these components have printed details on them.

It seems that ice skating is going to be a thing for the LEGO Friends Advent Calendar this year. Today, we get a small stool and two pairs of skates. Boring. Very boring – thank goodness yesterday’s gift was a mini-doll, so at least children can get her skating.

Now this is a treat for LEGO Star Wars fans. An rather rare Bespin Guard minifigure, available before this only in 75060 UCS Slave I, although with a different head. This is one for collectors wishing to expand a Cloud City diorama.

Each day, we will compare the three builds and pick the best.

Today, Star Wars steals the crown thanks to the uncommon minifigure. Even if the competition had been stiffer, this minifigure would have been hard to beat.

The scoreboard

CITY: 1

FRIENDS: 0

STAR WARS: 1

When I was 3 years old my dad bought home 6659 TV Camera Crew as a gift — he had no idea what he had just unleashed. Three decades and no dark age later, I am still going strong. My love of LEGO led me to a career in Civil Engineering and I am now raising three budding LEGO lovers with my lovely wife who is, bless her, a huge supporter of my brick addiction. When not writing for Brick Fanatics or fulfilling my duties as the U.S. Editor of Blocks Magazine I enjoy collecting, MOCing, exhibiting, as well as running, climbing and home improvement.
