A new trailer has been released for Captain Marvel, one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films due for release in 2019.
Captain Marvel will arrive in cinemas next March, marking the first time that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has opted for a female lead. Brie Larson is stepping into the titular role of Carol Danvers. Set in the 1990s, the film will also star Samuel L Jackson, using computer generated techniques to allow him to portray a younger Nick Fury than audiences have seen before. Gemma Chan, Jude Law and Ben Mendelsohn will also star in the upcoming Marvel movie.
From the trailer, it looks like the release will tick the usual origin story boxes, while offering plenty of crossover with the other movies in the universe. The inclusion of Fury, Coulson and SHIELD offer plenty of opportunities for fan indulgent moments, while 1990s nods such as Blockbuster videos will appeal to those who grew up during the decade.
Next year will be a busy one for the shared Marvel continuity, with Captain Marvel set to be followed by both Avengers 4 and Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Captain Marvel will arrive in cinemas on March 8, 2019.
