Light Brick Studio spins off from the LEGO Group

The LEGO Group’s new game development studio, Light Brick Studio, has become an independent company supported by LEGO Ventures.

Light Brick Studio was set up within the LEGO Group as a new game studio, with the developer producing Builder’s Journey for Apple Arcade. Now, the company is spinning off as an independent studio, with an investment from LEGO Ventures – the company’s start-up and investment arm – to help along the way.

Karsten Lund and Mads Prahm, the founders of the studio, will “independently explore new digital play spaces within the LEGO Idea”, Invision Community reports.

“We’re very excited to be able to expand and continue our journey to create new and interesting experiences, pushing the boundaries of digital play and creativity,” Karsten Lund said. “While we still feel very much connected to the LEGO family, this independence will give us space to explore the future of creative play even further.”

While LEGO games will continue to be part of what the newly independent company will work on, the team will also work with new partners on creativity and learning infused titles. LEGO Ventures will support the transition through the Incubation Studio as Light Brick Studio moves to Copenhagen.
