LEGO Store employee offers Super Mario coin in treasure hunt

A Reddit user on the LEGO subreddit shared a heartwarming story of an impromptu scavenger hunt for their three-year-old son.

The poster, with the username Yellsy, shared two pictures of the golden Super Mario coin and said that, while in a store in New Jersey, a LEGO employee gave their son a few scavenger hunt tasks. Once he found various displays around the store, he was given his prize: a golden Super Mario coin.

These limited-edition collectables are already fetching high prices on eBay, but other Reddit users shared similar experiences in the comments. It doesn’t seem to be a consistent promotion across a range of LEGO stores, however, perhaps only happening on a case-by-case basis.

Despite warnings from fellow LEGO fans, Yellsy’s son was keen to get his hands on the coin itself, so it’s not in mint condition any longer, much to the dismay of many other LEGO Reddit users. Still, as long as the child himself was happy with his prize, that’s what matters!

We wouldn’t recommend relying on a kind-hearted LEGO employee to make one of these coins available to you. It seems to only be occurring in certain stores across the US, likely wherever they have available stock and is unlikely to be an official competition.

  1. These coins are being given to kids. Any adult who would take the coin away from their kid to sell on ebay is a meanie.
