LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures at Celebration Orlando

With all of the excitement around a truly special celebration of the 40th anniversary of Star Wars, a trailer for The Last Jedi and a big announcement about Rebels, the LEGO Star Wars animated series – The Freemaker Adventures – should not be overlooked, as the titular family are soon to return for a second season.

Executive Producers Bill Motz and Bob Roth took to Star Wars Celebration’s Behind the Scenes stage to share a few teases about the upcoming Season 2, which will see the Freemaker family become part of the Rebel Alliance. A highlight during the panel saw the pair share concept art from Doug Chiang’s team that showed how the Freemaker characters would look if iterated in realistic, human form.

M-OC is the new villain, a droid created by the Emperor, to hunt down the youngest Freemaker – whose name the galactic despot is struggling to recall. His ship, Tracker I, is one of two sets based on the show to be released this year and the showrunners showed it off during the talk. M-OC docks with the ship rather than traditionally piloting it. The larger new set, the Arrowhead, is relevant to Rowan’s quest this season but Motz and Roth were vague about how it fits in.

The writing duo were joined by composer Michael Kramer, Lucasfilm’s Leland Chee and voice of Roger (and sound supremo) Matthew Wood. Each spoke about their relevant area of expertise, with Chee referring to the show’s placement in Star Wars lore as ‘canon adjacent’ – a succinct way of saying that the events may have happened, but the LEGO-ised aspects, such as characters using brick separators, did not.

Air dates have yet to be announced, but the second season of LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures is expected to air during the Summer.
