76832 XL-15 Spaceship – the largest of the three LEGO sets based on Disney Pixar’s Lightyear – has turned up in stores two weeks early, and the first review is already online.
It’s not often the LEGO Group gets to design a licensed ship inspired by its own products, but that’s exactly what happened with 76832 XL-15 Spaceship. Following the set’s initial reveal, Lightyear director (and self-proclaimed adult fan of LEGO) Angus MacLane confessed that Buzz’s ship was designed with its LEGO set in mind, giving the LEGO Group reason to produce a new Classic Space-style trans-yellow canopy.
Like the rest of us, MacLane – who was also the fan designer behind 2015’s LEGO Ideas 21303 Wall-E – has another couple of weeks to wait before getting his hands on 76832 XL-15 Spaceship, which doesn’t land on LEGO Store shelves until April 24. It’s seemingly already turning up at third-party retailers, however, including US sporting goods store Scheels (h/t JW Bricksters).
As a result, YouTuber just2good has managed to publish an early review of the 497-piece build, which includes three minifigures, a new cat (Sox) and even a display stand and plaque, blurring the line between playset and display set. It’s due to retail for £44.99 in the UK, $49.99 in the US and €49.99 in Europe when it launches later this month.
Justin is pretty positive about that price in his coverage of the set, chalking it up as one of the model’s major strengths. “All things considered, I’d rate this set a seven out of 10,” the YouTuber says. “This is actually a set that at first I was like, ‘It’s my least favourite of the Lightyear sets,’ but I recognise that this is a pretty darn good deal and I like how that spaceship turned out.”
You’ll be able to grab 76832 XL-15 Spaceship alongside 76830 Zyclops Chase and 76831 Zurg Battle on April 24. Lightyear lands in cinemas on June 17.
