The latest LEGO Ideas set, 21312 Women of NASA, is currently the best-selling toy on Amazon.
Amazon sales of 21312 Women of NASA, the inspirational set that features iconic NASA scientists, have been so strong that the set has topped the website’s Toys and Games chart. So many Amazon customers have been ordering the new LEGO Ideas set that it is now out of stock.
Thankfully the official LEGO online shop still has stock of 21312 Women of NASA available, priced at £19.99.
UK Business Insider credits the success to the LEGO Group’s decision to produce a set focused on women:
The set of 231 plastic pieces costs about $25 and went on sale Wednesday morning. Its instant popularity is not surprising to those who have been following Lego’s laudable — and presumably profitable — trend of selling toys that are more inclusive of women.
It could be argued that credit does not belong to the LEGO Group, as for the second time a set that celebrates female scientists has been instigated not by the company but by the fans. Maia Weinstock submitted the concept to LEGO Ideas, before fellow enthusiasts voted for the set. It was at that point that the LEGO review team selected the project for official release.
21312 Women of NASA is available now from shop.LEGO.com.
