LEGO ICONS 10306 Atari 2600 references the first in-game Easter egg

The upcoming LEGO ICONS 10306 Atari 2600 references one of the earliest known Easter eggs in a game through one small detail.

Early copies of 10306 Atari 2600 have landed in the hands of reviewers, including Ashnflash on YouTube, giving us a closer look at the contents of the second brick-built console. However, two pieces behind one of the three vignettes reference the first recorded Easter egg in video game history.

As recorded by Forbes, Adventure featured the earliest known Easter egg – secrets hidden within games by the developers – as a way for one of the programmers of the game to attach their name to the work.

This came in the form of the text “Created by Warren Robinett” in a hidden room that could only be accessed by following a series of steps. It also played a big part in Ready Player One and its cinematic adaptation in 2018. The design team behind 10306 Atari 2600 decided to include a reference to this Easter egg in the Adventure Vignette in the form of an egg on a golden stand behind the yellow castle.
