The new destination in Billund, Denmark, the LEGO House, has won an award at the 2018 Danish Design Awards.
LEGO House sits in the centre of the Billund, and is billed as the Home of the Brick. Architecture firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) designed the unique building after a competitive process, infusing the building with the shape of the classic 2×4 LEGO brick. Construction was completed in September 2017.
The Danish Design Awards seek to “highlight the impact and value of design, celebrates companies and designers across the country and showcases the difference their solutions make to industry, everyday life, and society at large.”
In the 2018 awards, the LEGO House won in the “Feel good” category. The judging panel praised “a unique integration of play and learning, [designed] with an intuitive approach that successfully conveys the philosophy driving the company and the brand.”
Other winners included the Copenhagen Towers, for Building Markets, and the Bicycle Snake, for the Icon Award.
The LEGO House has a central square and open roof space available to the general public free of charge, with ticketed areas requiring admissions. Tickets can be booked at the venue’s official website.
