With a distinctly non-Christmassy theme, 76390 Harry Potter Advent Calendar might be the least festive one we’ve seen so far.
Usually, LEGO advent calendars have quite a definitive festive touch. For example, 2020’s Harry Potter Advent Calendar was set at the Yule Ball, Hogwart’s magical Christmas party. This year’s 75307 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar 2021 shows Din Djarin and Grogu celebrating in full Christmassy outfits, and the Marvel minifigures in 76196 The Avengers Advent Calendar are having so much fun during the holiday season that they even invited Thanos.
In comparison, 2021’s 76390 Harry Potter Advent Calendar has only two remotely festive elements, a Christmas tree and a tiny bundle of holly. This year’s theme is tied to the opening scenes of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, which take place in September (aka not the holiday season). As such, we see goblins, Gringotts, and Platform Nine and Three-Quarters – but nothing too Christmassy.
Still, perhaps we’ll be able to get into the festive spirit well enough by sitting down around an interactive board game once we have all the pieces out of their windows. Plus, the snowy backdrop of the box itself is decently wintry, to make up for the lack of Christmas pieces. To judge the calendar’s festive cheer for yourself, you can buy 76390 Harry Potter Advent Calendar from September 1 for £24.99 / $39.99 / €29.99.
