LEGO Foundation tackles education in emergency situations

The LEGO Foundation has teamed up with Save the Children UK and Humanitarian Leadership Academy to provide learning support even in emergency situations.

The online course is called Learning Through Play in Education in Emergencies (EiE), hosted by Kaya Connect. It will take eight hours to complete, is completely free, and earns participants a digital badge upon completion.

The new program aims to minimise the disruption caused to children’s education in emergency situations. Learning provides both psychosocial and emotional support, so the importance of offering a consistent educational approach is vital.

Learning Through Play in EiE covers what EiE education is, how teachers and caregivers can implement it, and the support systems needed to do it right. The course description says it’s best suited to people already working in crisis or emergency locations, but can also work for educators in other areas who want to improve their understanding of the concepts.

Interested educators can sign up for the free course here, to be completed in their own time. Participants need a tablet or a smartphone to take part in the self-directed module. It was created as part of the EiE Online series endorsed by the Inter-agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE).
