LEGO fan designer is excited for 10497 Galaxy Explorer

A LEGO Fan designer whose creations were inspired by the original LEGO Classic Space set can’t wait for the upcoming 10497 Galaxy Explorer.

A generation of fans are counting down the days until a recreation of one of the most iconicLEGO Classic Space sets is released in an updated form. LEGO ICONS 10497 Galaxy Explorer is a 1,254-piece model that serves as both an homage to the original 1979 497 Galaxy Explorer and yet is a brand-new set in its own right.

The upcoming release is part of the LEGO Group’s 90th Anniversary celebrations this year, alongside another classic reimagining, 10305 Lion Knight’s Castle. Both sets have been carefully designed to emulate the look and feel of models from decades past, whilst offering modern takes on each build.

Fan designer Steve Guinness, also known as The Brick Consultant, is one such individual who can’t wait to get his hands on10497 Galaxy Explorer. In a recent social media post, Guinness revealed he recently designed a microscale version of 70816 Benny’s Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!, with the model having obvious visual links to both the original 497 Galaxy Explorer and the updated set.

Guinness says, “I designed this microscale version of Benny’s Spaceship from the LEGO Movie a few years ago. I can’t wait for the new Galaxy Explorer 90th anniversary set due out in August.’ With anticipation building for the arrival of 10497 Galaxy Explorer, who knows what new models the fan designer may be inspired to create?
