LEGO Creator 77940 and 77941 Mighty Dinosaurs revealed

Two new versions of LEGO Creator 31058 Mighty Dinosaurs are now available to order exclusively in the UK, including dark blue and brown recolours of the classic 3-in-1 set.

Both 77940 Mighty Dinosaurs and 77941 Mighty Dinosaurs are part of a wider pilot by the LEGO Group to test variants of existing products, across size, colour and even point of sale (that is, where consumers choose to spend their money).

This is a very limited trial, focused exclusively in the UK, where each of the new sets will be available solely through official channels and a single third-party retailer. You’ll have from September 1 to November 30 to pick them up, or until stock sells through.

Both sets will be sold at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores in the UK and Ireland, but 77940 Mighty Dinosaurs (the brown variant) will otherwise only be available at Smyths Toys, while 77941 Mighty Dinosaurs (the dark blue variant) will only be sold at Tesco.

Just as 77942 Fiat 500 is a direct recolour of 10271 Fiat 500, both new versions of 31058 Mighty Dinosaurs are identical to that original set in every other way. The only difference lies in the colour – and that’s exactly what the LEGO Group is attempting to test.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then. You can follow me on Twitter at @brfa_chris.
