LEGO Classic Space @ 40
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Classic Space, Justin Winn has put together an extra special LEGO build
As an enthusiast of Classic Space, I wanted to celebrate the fact that this LEGO theme was launched (literally!) 40 years ago. These are the sets of my childhood which single-handedly crystallised my love of LEGO and all things space, two things that have continued to feature heavily in my MOCs.
I wanted a simple build which featured the number ‘40’ at its core with my favourite minifigures busying themselves around it. I decided to incorporate elements from original Classic Space sets and included some of my favourites within the build. Fellow fans will recognise 886 Space Buggy, 6824 Space Dart I, a ship from 6930Space Supply Station and the rocket from 6971 Inter-Galactic Command Base.
The build also includes the Space Police Statue from 5974 Galactic Enforcer which at the time of release celebrated 30 years of LEGO Space – time sure flies. The grey statue is all my own work and includes a hard-to-source grey helmet originally released in a classic Castle set.
Finally, Benny has joined the celebrations and has brought his trusty, robot sidekick – and his own snack!
Enjoy!

Profile
- I’m long-time LEGO fan who fully emerged from my ‘dark age’ in 2014, after three children and a lot of LEGO building reignited my interest. My first love is Classic Space – they’re the first sets I owned – and this passion is reflected in my creations as a recurring theme. You can see my LEGO builds on Flickr, where my handle is justin_m_winn.
