Updated LEGO 40654 Beijing Postcard has a small difference
An updated version of 40654 Beijing Postcard appears to have had a small design change, which may explain its delayed launch.
Two LEGO postcard sets recently reappeared on the official online store, following their sudden removal from the site at the end of 2021. Originally planned to launch in early 2022, both 40519 New York Postcard and 40654 Beijing Postcard have now popped up on the Building Instructions page, suggesting they’re still scheduled to arrive at some point this year.
The reasons for the removal of the sets have yet to be revealed, but a slight design change to one of them may explain the delay. Although 40519 New York Postcard appears to be the exact same version of the set that appeared last year, 40654 Beijing Postcard was originally numbered 40520 Beijing Postcard and seems to have lost its Chinese flag piece and pole.
The knock-on effect this change may have had to 40520 Beijing Postcard’s retooled packaging, instructions and sticker sheet could all have contributed to the set’s delay.
There’s no word yet on when 40519 New York Postcard and 40654 Beijing Postcard will be available for purchase, but we’ll be sure to post an updated story as soon as we have more information.

It’s more likely the flag ran afoul of China’s national flag laws. The original version of the set has the Chinese flag but with nonstandard and hence illegal aspect ratio.
