LEGO 10497 Galaxy Explorer rumoured for August release
Details of yet another LEGO Classic set are swirling, with rumours of 10497 Galaxy Explorer said to be releasing later this year.
The winner of last year’s LEGO Ideas poll to choose a classic theme to resurrect for the company’s 90th anniversary will be revealed in August. However, recent rumours suggest that more than one LEGO set may be sharing the spotlight.
According to a previous report, this year’s Creator Expert line will include a product numbered 10497, leading at least one fan site to speculate the set could be a reissue of the beloved 497 Galaxy Explorer model.
Promobricks has now added fuel to the fire by revealing that the set is indeed on its way, with 10497 Galaxy Explorer said to be launching in August as part of the LEGO Group’s celebrations. The report states that the model will be a new version of the classic spaceship, featuring 1,254 pieces and retailing for €109.99.
As previously reported, it’s looking unlikely that the 3D base plates included with the original set will make the cut this time around and apparently the tower from 497 Galaxy Explorer will also be absent.
The wingspan of the updated 10497 Galaxy Explorer is said to be 32 cm and the model could be 52.5 cm in length. Two 12 x 6 x 2 trans-yellow windscreens may make up the cockpit, with the pieces having previously appeared in 70816 Benny’s Spaceship. The report mentions the wings of the ship might also be completely tiled, reminiscent of those of 10283 NASA Space Shuttle Discovery.
Inside the cockpit may feature a variety of consoles and a sleeping area for the minifigure crew. Mirroring the original design, 10497 Galaxy Explorer is also said to feature a fold down rear hatch, allowing for a small rover vehicle to be removed.
10497 Galaxy Explorer may include four astronaut minifigures, two white and two red, matching those that were available with the original set.
The LEGO Group has yet to confirm the release of any 90th anniversary sets beyond 11021 90 Years of Play and an upcoming polybag. For now though, do take any information regarding 10497 Galaxy Explorer with a heavy dose of scepticism.

I love this idea you have where they simply rerelease a set from decades ago at halved price as if they still have the molds and such just lying around
I’m a 54 French AFOL and still own the original – among others of the collection btw but unfortunately not the boxes (we easily threw boxes in those years…) – so it would be just awesome to find it back in stores!
or they could’ve simply rereleased the old set for 1/2 the price.
