Herbert Art Gallery in Coventry is playing host to a LEGO exhibit including a Lady Godiva mosaic. The gallery is home to John Collier’s c.1898 Lady Godiva painting, which 65,000 bricks have been used to re-create. To launch Brick Wonders, the new LEGO exhibit, the mosaic building formed part of a family fun day. The event saw a new attendance record set for Herbert Art Gallery, with 3,000 visitors through the door in one day.
A spokeswoman told the Coventry Telegraph:
“The mosaic looks stunning and we’re proud of all the little brick-builders that took the time to help create it.
“We had visitors from all across the region, young and old, which just goes to show that the wonderful world of Lego isn’t just for the kids.”
70 builds make up the Brick Wonders exhibit, which will run until January 15, 2017.
UPDATE: The hard-working team at the charity Fairy Bricks were responsible for making the mosaic happen, and passed along this comment: ‘We build lots of mosaics here at Fairy Bricks and this one was certainly very different. Very well received by an enthusiastic local audience and a pleasure to have been there doing.’
