A closer look at the updated 21331 Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone character minifigure

With the official reveal of 21331 Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone, we can now take a closer look at the set’s Sonic the Hedgehog minifigure.

To date only one LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog minifigure has been released, with its inclusion in LEGO Dimensions 71244 Level Pack. However, that’s soon to change as the imminent January 1 launch of 21331 Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone includes a new and updated version of SEGA’s speedy hero.

The LEGO group could have just decided to go with the existing version of the Sonic the Hedgehog minifigure in the LEGO Ideas set, but has instead tweaked the look of the character with some minor, but essential upgrades. For starters, the LEGO Dimensions minifigure had green eyes, which were added to the character in later games, but for the original Mega Drive outing they were black, which is correct on the new minifigure.

The 21331 Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone minifigure also receives skin-coloured ears, face, arms and torso oval, whereas the previous version had tan colouring. The leg pieces for the LEGO Dimensions minifigure were white, with blue and red colouring, but the updated Sonic minifigure’s legs use red leg pieces coloured blue and white. There’s even a great touch on Sonic’s boots, with his trademark white strap and gold buckle appearing on the side of his boots. Finally, the character’s smile has been switched from the left of the minifigure’s face to the right.
