Cafe Corner Upgrade

As you know I spent a lot time Bricklinking Cafe Corner. Once it was complete I knew I had to add an interior as I’m a big fan of  the more recent modulars and the detail. So I set about first with the ground floor. First stop was to open LDD.  I added some pavement features including my traffic light complete with custom printed road signs from Altbricks. Also added was a blue bin and the street light was moved to the end of the road.

It’s worth mentioning here, I’ve already added a blue bin and traffic light to the Grand Emporium but not finished the modifications to that building to cover it here. Anyway I also want to give each building it’s own period vehicle, so before I continued with the changes to the actual building, I designed a Yellow and Black taxi based on a vehicle from the old Indiana Jones sets. I also purchased a custom torso from Firestar Toys for my taxi driver complete with a flat cap.

Once the taxi was built it was back to LDD. First up I added a door so I could have a loo under the stairs. I also bricked up the stairs so the toilet was inclosed. I also added a fire exit, this then gave me idea where to have the counter and internal layout. I made sure the seating and tables matched those outside, with only change was the colour from yellow to reddish brown.

The counter has a section for 1×2 tiles to act as chocolate bars (note Im ordering the custom bars from Firestar Toys) and then a till and flip up end for staff to get in and out. The back of the coffee shop has a barista machine, a coffee grinder and shelves with orange and milk on. Also a sink and a custom menu board. Now this menu board is built into the building frame and each 2×4 tile can be lifted up to reveal storage space for cups. The tiles are a custom one of a kind done by the awesome team at Firestar Toys. With a list of all the different drinks you can order.

The custom modifications are completed with a tiled floor, custom printed glass panels from Firestar Toys and then the staff. The manager is Larry from the LEGO Movie and the other 3 are from this years big City Square set. To keep in with the modular theme all 4 have the classic minifigure face. I think my plan turned out better then expected and with the custom printed elements, it really has made my Cafe Corner have the wow factor.

I now need to plan and design the interior for the hotel section of the building but first I have switch my focus to this years Creator Toy & Grocery Shop that I’ve designed into a modular building. More on that in the new year.
