Award #15 – Book of the year

Today we look at books and it has been another strong year for LEGO-related titles with both No Starch Press and DK Publishings both bringing out excellent titles. I myself prefer the more adult-themed titles from No Starch Press, but this year DK have done some really appealing books and I think it was a very hard award to pick a winner for.

Adam –  Great LEGO Sets by DK

Filled with plenty of great images and interesting facts. A great trip down memory lane too.

Luc – Beautiful LEGO 3: Wild! by Mike Doyle

I never used to be bothered about LEGO books that weren’t by LEGO; that changed when, after submitting a MOC on the advice of a friend (credit to Mark Sellick) I ended up being in one and when I got my copy it was a real eye opener. This one has beautiful MOCs from all over the world and is a great example of someone bringing together some of the best of our craft on an inherently difficult subject to tackle.

Séb –  Great LEGO Sets by DK

DK release amazing books every year, but this one will satisfy everyone from the avid LEGO nut, to the casual observer who might find a set they had when they were younger, even if they’re not into LEGO anymore. To top it off, it comes with an excellent micro-build which is the icing on the cake.

Richard – The LEGO Architect by Tom Alphin

As two judges had picked the same book it allowed me to pick my preferred choice and while it didn’t win I thought it was an amazing book, but first some other books I considered. First up was the book by Brick Picker that I recently reviewed “Ultimate Guide to Collectible LEGO sets”, then there were the books by No Starch: Beautiful LEGO 3, The Art of LEGO Scale Modelling to name just two, but for me the stand-out book for 2015 was The LEGO Architect by Tom Alphin. This is a stunning book both for LEGO and Architecture fans and really helped to change my view point on the entire Architecture theme in general.
