The company behind the LEGO video games, Warner Bros. Interactive, may be sold by parent company AT&T.
Warner Bros. Interactive, the gaming division that owns TT Games, may be sold by AT&T for around $4 billion. TT Games publishes the LEGO video games, with LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga to be the next title in the series later this year.
CNBC reports sources naming Take-Two Interactive Software, Electronic Arts and Activision Blizzard as potential buyers – with gamers likely to be nervous at the thought of EA acquiring any further franchises.
The first LEGO video game was LEGO Star Wars in 2005, which spawned a sequel and led to further titles including Batman and Indiana Jones. Since then, many well-known film franchises have been given the brick treatment, including Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean. In 2007, TT Games was acquired by Warner Bros. Interactive.
AT&T is getting a new CEO in John Stankey on July 1 and is expected to divest assets that a not core business after hedge fund Elliot Management purchased a $3.2 billion stake in the company.
